In 2007, AEA worked with the Board of Trustees and senior management team of The Frick Collection on a five-year strategic plan to address areas including the collection strategy, temporary exhibitions, education, improving visitor access and amenities, and financial strength.

The plan laid the groundwork for the museum to contemplate a minor architectural intervention that would improve disabled access and provide enhanced exhibition and back of house spaces.
