El Museo del Barrio has been a focal point of Latino culture in New York City since 1969 with a mission to present and preserve the art and culture of Puerto Rico and the art of the increasingly diverse Latino and Latin American community in New York.
With funding provided by Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, El Museo commissioned AEA Consulting in 2005 to facilitate a strategic planning process for the period 2007 – 2011. The plan was commissioned as El Museo was undertaking a major capital renovation project, which would enable it to better serve its community and realize its goal of becoming the preeminent national Latino and Latin American institution. It was in large part this project which served as the impetus to undertake the strategic plan.
The plan identifies opportunities to leverage the increased visibility which will result from the project, suggests expanding programs and marketing efforts, and outlines the project’s impact on operations.
