Arts Council England

In 2005, Arts Council England (ACE) retained AEA to carry out a scoping exercise to provide the case and brief for a review of the presentation of the contemporary visual arts in England. The aim of the review will be to provide a comprehensive evidence-based case for integrated planning and investment in the presentation of the contemporary visual arts in England. It is envisaged that the review will result in the articulation by ACE of a new strategic policy framework for contemporary visual arts based on the needs of the sector in the context of ACE's broad ambitions for the arts. An advocacy campaign based on this new policy formed a major part of ACE's case to Government for increased funding for the arts in the 2006 Comprehensive Spending Review.

This exercise was designed to make recommendations for the scale and scope of the Review, to identify and prioritize the core issues on which the Review should focus, set out the brief and methodology for the Review, and to recommend any additional research or study to be undertaken in conjunction with it.
